Born in Farnborough Kent, John displayed a passion for drawing from early childhood. After initially pursuing a career in the printing industry, he eventually established himself as a professional artist in 1990. He relocated to Dorset in 1996.
Inspiration is firmly rooted in the diversity of the south west coastline and beyond. Love of the natural world and of the landscape in these regions is evident in his work. He has gained a reputation for his atmospheric style - his ability to use colours and perspective that capture a mood so effectively.
Working in oil,watercolour or mixed media he enjoys experimenting with different mediums, making sketches directly from the subject. Working on site allows the information to be firmly fixed in place, taking into account the prevailing conditions and the way the surroundings are affected. These elements are transformed into larger paintings creating impact. John's subject matter tends to lend itself to paintings on a larger scale.
He exhibits his work in several galleries across Devon and Dorset and featured in a new book "Portrait of the Artist" a profile of 25 Bridport Painters & Sculptors (published by Richmond House editions April 2010).
